1. This blog has been a long time coming; I planned to do one in the early days of We Do Printing in 2007 and never felt I had enough to talk about. With 17 more years of experience under my belt, I think I have plenty to say.

    New Flatbed Printer

Over the last few years, I've toyed with the idea of buying a flatbed printer, and after 2 years of searching, I decided to push the button.

The current process of printing an A1 outdoor menu is to print the image on vinyl, leave it for 24 hours to dry, laminate the print, mount it to a board, and cut it. Flatbed printing allows you to put the board onto the printer and print directly to the surface with instant drying. Days turn into minutes.

There are a ton of different machines on the market, various sizes, different amounts of inks, and speeds. Our current vinyl printing machine is at the top of its game and has excellent quality, so we wanted the flatbed to match. There's no point in arriving at an event with vinyl from one machine and a board from another and looking completely different in colour and quality. We decided on a brand new Epson SC-V7000 with the same colour setup as our vinyl printer, meaning they'll look identical when printed.

  1. Not only will this print on standard boards, it can print on glass, mirrors, wood, concrete & metals. We can print on lids of boxes for press launches or customised short-run packaging with the name of the event on it. We have already had orders for short-run beermats for the launch of a new pub and metal tags for luggage for a touring band. Combine it with our existing flatbed cutter, and the possibilities are endless. We can think of printing on thousands of things, and I'm sure there are a thousand more once we get it up and running.

We're always open to showing off, so get in touch if you want to see it in action or do a test. We'd love to show you.

  1. So why Start a Blog?

"I didn't know you did that" is a phrase I've heard more and more over the years from customers. It could be when they're collecting a job from our workshop, or we've pointed out that we also do something they ordered elsewhere. When I started the company and only had a few customers, it was easy to call each one and tell them what was happening, but as we grew, the priority was to get the work done and delivered, and phone calls were the first thing to go. This blog will serve as a central place for keeping everyone updated with new products, recent work, upcoming events, cool design stuff we see and some opinions.
