Flyer and Leaflet Printing

Flyers are one of those things everyone's had in their hands at some point. Sometimes it's something you want to read, sometimes it's come through your front door or someone's handed it to you outside a venue. Some people call them flyers, some call them leaflets. We'd call a leaflet something lighter in weight, a flyer something heavier, but it doesn't really matter what they're called. It's what you're looking for.

We print our flyers in-house in Kilcoole on our digital press, then cut them down to size. Same press, same paper, same checks whether you're getting 50 or 5,000. No minimum order.

What We Print Leaflets For

Takeaway menus and daily specials for restaurants and cafes. Event flyers for festivals, gigs, and conferences. Class schedules for gyms and studios. Property details for estate agents. Product sheets and price lists for trade shows. Welcome packs for hotels. Internal comms for offices. Launch announcements.

We do leaflets for the local church. We print them for a farm experience in Laragh, Co. Wicklow. We do them for the Martello in Bray to remind people to pay for parking at the seafront. We print them for Domino's in Greystones to advertise their offers. We did a run for meditation workshops in Glendalough. If it's a single sheet that needs to look good and communicate clearly, it's a flyer job.

Choosing the Right Paper

This is where most flyer jobs go sideways. Too light and it feels cheap. Too heavy and you've blown the budget on something being handed out at a conference.

• 120gsm uncoated is lightweight, like good office paper. Works for information sheets, inserts, or anything people need to write on. Folds well, so it's often the right choice for tri-fold leaflets. We print a lot of these for tech companies doing event handouts where the content matters more than the feel.
• 130gsm silk has a smooth finish that makes colours sharper. The standard choice for promotional flyers where the design needs to do the work. Good for hospitality: restaurant promos, bar event flyers, hotel welcome information.
• 200gsm silk or uncoated is where flyers start to feel worth keeping. Menus, event programmes, property details, product sheets. This weight sits flat on a table and doesn't curl at the edges. If you want someone to pin it to a noticeboard or keep it in a folder, this is the minimum.
• 300gsm and above is postcard territory. Counter cards, tent cards, anything handled repeatedly. More expensive per sheet, so it makes sense for smaller quantities or pieces that need to last. We use this weight for festival backstage information and signage that takes a beating.

Silk paper has a smooth, coated finish. Colours come out sharper and fingerprints don't show as much. Uncoated has a natural, matte feel and you can write on it. If you're not sure, silk works for most promotional jobs.

Sizes

A5 (210x148mm) is the go-to if you have plenty of imagery and a good bit of text. The standard promotional flyer.

A6 (105x148mm) is postcard size. A couple of bullet points, a few photographs, a line of text. Small enough to put into a handbag or fold in half and put in your pocket.

A7 is smaller again, midway between a business card and a flyer.

DL (99x210mm) is the envelope-sized one. You can fit a good bit of information on a DL: logo at the top, bullet points of your details, contact information at the bottom, and on the other side photographs or a list or a map. A lot of tourist offices and perspex holders hold that size, so they don't take up too much real estate on a countertop in a hotel or a business.

A4 (297x210mm) for price lists or detailed information. If you've got a lot to say, go A4.

Custom sizes are no problem. Tell us the dimensions when you order. The reason we have standard sizes is how the paper divides up: two A4s fit neatly on a sheet, eight A6s fit neatly, six DLs fit on a sheet. Going off-size can push the price up because the paper isn't used as efficiently.

Common Mistakes

Trying to fit too much onto one page. Ten images, a big paragraph, a large phone number, Instagram logos, a QR code, all crammed in. If that's happening, go up a size or choose a folded flyer. Now you have a front, an inside, and a rear.

Silk when you need people to write on it. Feedback forms, order slips, booking forms: use uncoated paper, or ballpoint pens will struggle and the ink will smudge.

Borders too close to the edge. Every print job shifts slightly when trimmed. Tight borders show every tiny movement. Keep borders at least 5mm from the edge, or go borderless.

Text too small. Body text under 9pt is hard to read, especially in poor light. If you're cramming too much in, go up a size or cut the copy.

Single or Double-Sided?

We print double-sided by default. Nobody likes a blank rear unless there's a reason for it. If you do have a plain rear, at least print your logo with your phone number or the event date on the back. Our view is that a single-sided flyer looks like you ran out of ink and forgot to print the other side. Nice full-colour image on the front, empty white on the back. It's jarring. That's our opinion. The price difference between single and double-sided is smaller than most people expect.

Artwork

Supply a print-ready PDF at the correct size with 3mm bleed. Keep text at least 5mm from the trim edge. If you're not sure how to set up bleed, send what you have and we'll check it before printing.

We'll have a look at your artwork before it goes to press. If we think you've picked the wrong paper for what you're doing, we'll let you know. If you have a box that needs to be filled out by pen and you've chosen a glossy paper with a solid colour behind the box, we'll give you a call. We can change paper, go up or down a weight, whatever works.

Turnaround

Standard turnaround is 2-3 working days. If you need them faster, we have a same day flyer printing option. If you're local to Wicklow, Greystones, or Bray, you can collect from our Kilcoole shop. Otherwise we ship overnight with DPD once the job is ready.

There's no minimum order. We can print one, but the cost to print 50 is often the same as printing one. It's down to setup costs and time. Cutting one flyer takes the same time as cutting a big bundle on our guillotine.

Common Questions

What paper weight should I use for flyers?

It depends on what the flyer is doing. 120gsm for lightweight handouts and inserts. 130gsm silk for standard promotional flyers where the design does the work. 200gsm if you want it to feel worth keeping, like a menu or event programme. 300gsm and above for counter cards or anything handled repeatedly. If you're not sure, 200gsm silk is the safe choice.

What's the difference between silk and uncoated paper?

Silk has a smooth, coated surface. Colours look sharper, fingerprints don't show as much. Uncoated has a natural, matte texture and you can write on it with a pen. If anyone needs to fill in a form or write on the flyer, go uncoated. For everything else, silk.

Can you print custom sizes?

Yes. Standard sizes (A5, A6, A4, DL) are cheaper because they use the paper efficiently, but we can cut to any dimensions you need. Tell us the size when you order.

Do you print flyers for events at short notice?

We do. Standard turnaround is 2-3 working days, but we have a same day option if you're stuck. We've printed runs for events, conferences, and last-minute promotions where the flyers were needed that day.

What file format do you need?

What's the minimum order for leaflets?

There isn't one. We can print a single flyer, but practically speaking 50 is usually the starting point. The setup and cutting time is the same whether we're printing one or a hundred.

Do you do folded flyers?

Yes. If you've got too much content for a single sheet, a folded flyer gives you a front, inside panels, and a rear. We have a separate page for folded flyers with details on folds and sizes.

Is double-sided printing more expensive?

Not by much. The price difference between single and double-sided is smaller than most people expect, and a blank back makes the piece look unfinished. We'd always recommend printing both sides.
