Honeycomb Board Printing

Honeycomb board is engineered cardboard - two printed outer faces with a honeycomb paper structure in between. It's the same principle as how a cardboard box gets its strength, but built for display work. We use Swedboard, a 10mm recycled board that's rigid enough to stand on its own and light enough to move around easily.

The edges show the honeycomb structure when cut - rows of paper cells that make it obvious this isn't plastic. Most customers leave it that way because it looks good and signals the eco credentials without needing to explain. If you'd prefer a cleaner finish, we can tape the edges in white for an extra charge.

We've printed honeycomb board for the Design Council of Ireland - white ink on the natural board for a clean, modern look. We've also done freestanding backdrops for James Whelan Butchers that slot together and stand up on their own without any framework.

Freestanding and interlocking

Honeycomb board can be cut to interlock. We cut slots into the pieces so they slide together and support themselves - no frames, no stands, no tape. It ships flat, assembles on site in minutes, and comes apart just as easily for storage or recycling.

Cut letters and shapes

We can cut honeycomb board into letters, logos, and custom shapes on our CNC. The 10mm thickness gives enough depth to look substantial on a wall or stage. Very fine detail doesn't work well with this material - if you're thinking of intricate lettering or small shapes, send us the artwork and we'll tell you if it'll cut cleanly.

What honeycomb board doesn't handle

It's paper and cardboard, so it's indoor use only. Rain, damp, or humidity will damage it. If you need something for outdoor use, Foamex or Corriboard are better options.

It's also not the right choice for anything that needs to last years. It's built for events, exhibitions, and campaigns - things that go up, do their job, and come down again.

The recycling angle

At the end of the event, the whole thing goes in the recycling bin. No sorting plastic from paper, no guilt about landfill. The UV ink we print with is also recyclable, so the whole sign can be processed together.

White ink option

We can print white ink onto honeycomb board for designs that need solid white areas or a white base layer. This is quoted per job rather than a standard price because it prints differently and costs more to produce. Get in touch with your artwork and we'll price it up.

Thickness

10mm is our standard. Rigid enough for freestanding work, light enough to handle easily.

We can print up to 8ft x 4ft (2440mm x 1220mm) in a single piece.

Supply print-ready PDF or high-resolution image files. For cut shapes or interlocking pieces, include a cut path or let us know what you're trying to achieve and we can help with the setup.
